App Permission offers parents an additional level of customization for their child's Screen Time. With App Permissions, you can choose to exclude apps from any of the Automated Block Schedules that you set. This means that even when a Block Schedule is active, the apps that have been granted permission will still be accessible.
This allows parents the flexibility to tailor children's device schedules to better accommodate their Screen Time needs. For instance, parents could choose to exclude educational apps from being blocked during study hours, ensuring their child can still access useful resources while preventing distractions from other apps.
Setting up App Permissions can be done in two ways:
- Permissions can be set when you create or edit an Automated Block Schedule.
- This is useful when you want to apply the same permissions to a group of apps during certain periods.
- Permissions can be set for individual apps in your App Rules list.
- This option provides even more granularity, letting you control each app's availability independently.
Setting Permissions in Schedules:
When you create an Automated Schedule, you can choose which apps you would like to be excluded from it. By default, all apps set to Blocked by Schedule will be blocked unless you choose to exclude them from specific Schedules.
To set App Permission when creating or editing a Schedule.
- Navigate to the Edit Schedule screen by tapping on an existing schedule or creating a new one.
- Next to App Permissions, tap the pencil icon to open the app list.
- Review the list of apps*; all apps with a check mark will be blocked by the Schedule.
- Uncheck any app you do not want to be blocked during the schedule.
- Tap the checkmark in the top right of the app list.
Once Saved, you can see which apps are being excluded from the Schedule.
*Any apps that you have set to Always Blocked or Always Allowed will not appear in the Permission list.
Setting Permissions in App Rules:
You can also evaluate each app individually in the App Rules tab of management. When you tap on an app on the list and go to the Permissions page, you can see and edit its App Rule setting. For apps that are set to Blocked by Schedule, you will see a list of your created Schedules. De-select any Schedule that you do not want the individual app to be blocked during.
