App Rules is a Premium/Premium+ feature allowing parents to manage app access individually, according to three rules:
- Apps set to Always Blocked are always unavailable on your child's device, even when the device is unblocked. You can temporarily change this App Rule to allow access to specific apps on-demand.
- Popular for App Store, unapproved apps
- Apps set to Always Allowed are always available on your child's device, even during block periods.
- Popular for Health management apps, educational apps, family communication apps
- Apps set to Blocked by Schedule are only available when your child's device is unblocked (e.g., Allowance is in 'play' mode, a grant command is sent from your parent app, etc.).
- Popular for Social media, games, and any app you don't want your child using in excess!
How to Set App Rules:
- Log in to your OurPact parent app
- Navigate to the child profile you want to set App Rules for
- Select the App Rules tab at the bottom of your child's profile
- A list of all apps installed on your child's device will appear. Run through this list, and set your preferred App Rule for each: Always Blocked, Always Allowed, Blocked by Schedule (example below)
You can sort the apps in your App Rules list by clicking the Sort by dropdown in the top right corner of the App Rules list. This will allow you to sort your list in four different ways:
- Alphabetically (A-Z)
- Buy Age Rating
- By Set App Rule (Always Allowed, Blocked by Schedule, and Always Blocked)
- By App Category (Education, Entertainment, Social, Etc.)
TIP: Don't recognize an app in the list? Tap the app icon, then tap Information. We'll share more details about the app, along with any risk category flags.
App Permissions
Premium+ subscribers will also be able to set additional customization using App Permissions; this customization will allow you to exclude any app that has been set to Blocked by Schedule. When you tap an app icon, the Permissions page will display all Automated Schedules you have created; uncheck any schedule you do not want the selected app to be blocked during.
You can also edit App Permissions while setting up an Automated Block Schedule.
