Categories is a companion feature to View that finds and tags inappropriate or worrisome text in screenshots taken by View. This lets parents quickly see screenshots with inappropriate content rather than going through each individual screenshot taken throughout the day.
Categories uses OCR technology to scan an image once it is taken and will flag any images containing inappropriate words. It is important to note that Categories can only read an image after it is taken; it does not trigger a screenshot of all concerning words to be taken.
Words are flagged and sorted into five categories:
- Sexual Content
- Profanity
- Violence
- Substance Abuse
- *Custom
Images that have been tagged will have a colored dot in the bottom left corner corresponding to the category color. The controls at the bottom of the screen allow you to filter your View gallery. The category filter allows you to choose which categories you would like to see as well as filter out any images that have not been tagged.
When you tap on an image in your View gallery to open it and pull up the drawer at the bottom of the screen, you can see all of the flagged words in a single glance.
*The Custom category lets you add your own keywords to our extensive library or exclude keywords that aren't a concern but might be flagged under one of the categories.
To add a new custom keyword:
- Tap Settings (gear icon in the top right)
- Tap 'Custom Keywords'
- Enter the keyword or tap the + icon after typing it
To add a new ignored keyword:
- Tap Settings (gear icon in the top right)
- Tap 'Ignored Keywords'
- Enter the keyword or tap the + icon after typing it
You can delete a keyword from the list anytime by tapping the check box to the left of the word and then tapping the trash can. You can delete multiple words at once.
