During the Connect installation, Find My Phone must be temporarily disabled to complete pairing. Don't worry. You can turn this feature on again after the installation!
However, if Find My iPhone is greyed out in your child's device settings, this is an Apple-related issue. Most likely, your child's device has Stolen Device Protection turned on.
If you have Apple's Stolen Device Protection enabled on your child's device, you cannot turn off Find My Phone until it has been turned off. To turn off Stolen Device Protection:
- Go to Settings
on your child's device.
- On an iPhone with Face ID: Tap Face ID & Passcode, then enter your passcode.
- On an iPhone with a Home button: Tap Touch ID & Passcode, then enter your passcode.
- Scroll down and tap Stolen Device Protection.
- Turn off Stolen Device Protection.
If you have Stolen Device Protection set to Away from Familiar Locations and you’re not at home or work, or you have Stolen Device Protection set to Always, a Security Delay is required to turn off Stolen Device Protection. Tap Start Security Delay, then follow the onscreen instructions.
If you are still unable to turn off Find My Phone on your child's device, please follow these additional steps.
- Disable iOS Restrictions:
- iOS 12 and above: Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Toggle OFF
- iOS 11 and below: Settings > General > Restrictions > Toggle OFF
- Verify that your child's device is signed in to Apple ID & iCloud. If you are logged into iCloud/Apple ID, try to sign out of Apple ID and sign back in.
- Make sure that the device is connected to the internet, preferably a strong WiFi network.
- Reset the network settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings).
- Update the iOS device to the latest version of iOS.
